Carcavelos was, until 2013, a civil parish in the Portuguese municipality of Cascais, about 12 kilometres west of Lisbon. In 2013, the parish merged into the new parish Carcavelos e Parede. [1] The parish was known for the Carcavelos wine. With the decline of the winemaking industry in the region, the attractiveness of its beaches have made the parish a destination for surfing, due to the waves here

This shot was taken in a cold winter day, with clear blue sky and powerful waves, in one of the most popular beaches in Lisbon - Carcavelos Beach. Despite of the low temperatures, these three young men chose to ride the waves and have a good time together, away from the rest of the world. As a nature lover myself, I admire those who still enjoy spending time outdoors in valuable way, connecting themselves with others as well as the world around.
